9.0 Doom 3
Doom3 by ID is a game with a very advanced graphic engine, it works with a subset of OpenGL graphic libraries, used in professional fields.
Usually Doom3 works well with the nVIDIA cards and you can see it from the figures 18 and 19. The score gap between the Radeon X800 Pro and the 6800 GT is small though, and it keeps quite constant at changing the scenery complexity in terms of video resolution. We can explain it considering that there could be a game optimization for the 6800 GT architecture on the one hand, and a better bent of the X800 architecture to run this OpenGL based software on the other hand.
The game running with the antialiasing and anisotropic filters activated (figures 20 and 21) lowers the measuring system performances of all the three cards: you even cannot play Doom3 with the 9800 XT at 1280x1024 video resolution!
Even if the 6800 GT in more performing with Doom3, indipendently from the driver and/or game setup the user chooses, it is notable that the Radeon X800 can assure the full playing even at 1280x1024 with AA and AF activated.
In the next page we test the system with FarCry based benchmark.
