8.0 Unreal Tournament 2004
Unreal Tournament 2004 by Epic Games is a API Direct3D based game: the scenery view is high level though it uses old technology solutions; this makes our measurement system's cpu the bottleneck for the processing.
It is right this we can see from the figures 14, 15 and 16: the Radeon X800 is faster than the 6800 GT with different video configurations, from the 1024x768 High Quality up to 1280x1024 High Quality. The system's cpu bottleneck doesn't allow to get the best performances from both the cards. The 9800 XT card "feels" the different setup in terms of video resolution and filters activation; in fact, that has scores almost alike to the other ones using the 1024x768, AA 4x, AF 8x and 1280x1024 High Quality setup.
The 1280x1024 resulution with AA and AF activated (figure 17) affects in a significant way the two faster cards: we noted a lower mean frame rate but that doesn't affect the game fluidity in both the cases. Anyway, in these conditions the Radeon card wins on the GeForce as we can see a gap of about 20 frames per second between them.
In the next page we analyze the system response with Doom3.
