GeForce 6800 for (really) old games??

I love old games like Jane's USAF, Mig Alley, B-17 the Mighty 8th, and Jane's F/A-18 and still playing them using a Voodoo5 5500. However, I'm rather disappointed for its frame rate when doing 4xFSAA in 1024x768 (especially USAF).

Since a Voodoo5 6000 has been consistently beyond my grasp (unless the day I'm rich enough to order a costum-made Voodoo5 with EIGHT VSA-100 processors. MUAHAHA!), I guess I'm gonna' try GeForce 6800.

The questions are:

(1) Can 6800 run old games well? I hear a lot of myths that new nVidia cards like 6800 or FX is incompatible with old games. Or cannot run them well. Or playing them with lesser image quality. Is that true? But I read on SimHQ 6800 runs Falcon 4.0 with 4XFSAA, 8XAF, in 1600x1200 with about 50fps frame rate!!

(2) Which is the lowest DirectX version still compatible with 6800?

(3) I'm sticking with DirectX 7, but I guess I have to move to DX9 for GeForce 6800. Can older DirectX games (like European Air War) play well on DX9?

(4) How about Windows 98? Since most the games I'm playing are Win98, I think I'm gonna stick with the OS. Can geForce 6800 run well with Windows 98?

Thanks!

I dont even think the 6800 is supported under 98.Check Nvidias compat list.

Well, I was wrong. The 6800 is supported with 98. From what I understand, It's only supported with Direct X 9.0, But the older games should work under 9.0c. But the only problem is some games are only supported under 2000, and XP, and Microsoft doesn't even support 98 anymore.

I have GeForce 6800. Actually some games on it won't work: some very old Direct3D games. But OpenGL works perfect, even GLQuake. But thre is some artfact in some games.
Example1: Unreal Gold have some rendering artifacts on long distanse surfases in Direct3D, so I use OpenGL where I'don't found artifacts.
Example2: On Half Life I have very low perfomanse in Direct3D, OpenGL works great.
Example3: System Shock 2. Some textures may just dissapear after first mip level, they don't get blur, they just dissapear.

So as you see problems can be only with very old games with Direct3D/Glide support, but they ALL work, with small artifacts, but work. After all some Direct3D games work perfect: Drakan, Tribes II, Tachyon: The Fringe, Project I.G.I. Diablo II, Operation Blockade, Vampre The Masquerade: Redemption.

Forceware 61.xx was released for Win 98/ME So I dont see any problems.

Old or new DirectX version won't change something. If the game works perfect with DirectX 7, so it will work same with DirectX 9.

From what I've heard the only game that won't work in Win 98 is Doom 3:)

Well, Nvidia cards works with Windows 9x, but if you use NForce 3 chipset, Nvidia AGP card (every known model) and DirectX 9 - you simply can't use more than 16 colors. This is very interesting problem, perhaps related with AGP Apperture and MS-DOS Prompt "Not enough memory" problem, even with fixed vcache and physical memory page settings in System.ini.
BTW, I already contacted Nvidia support and now I am waiting for any answer. I tried to contact Gigabyte support, because my motherboard is Gigabyte, but they simply ingored my question. Shame!
