Con il seguente comunicato stampa S3 Graphics ha lanciato ufficialmente la nuova gpu Chrome 540 GTX che ora rappresenta l'ultimo tassello della gamma di processori grafici Chrome 500. Il chip grafico è caratterizzato da una frequenza operativa pari a 800MHz ed è stato abbinato dal produttore, in fase di realizzazione della scheda grafica che da esso prende il nome (cfr. le foto seguenti), a 256MB di RAM G-DDR3 a 2x850MHz. Il bus di collegamento tra gpu e RAM è però a 64-bit.

In accordo a S3 Graphics, la nuova video card è stata progettata per offrire all'utente una soluzione dalle spiccate doti in ambito High Definition, e dunque nella riproduzione dei filmati su Blu-ray e HD-DVD, dove può vantare il supporto della tecnologia proprietaria ChromotionHD 2.0, ideale per l'elaborazione in tempo reale di stream MPEG-4/AVC (H.264), MPEG-2 e VC-1; non manca, tuttavia, la compatibilità con i recenti game dal momento che l'hardware è compliant con DirectX 10.1 e OpenGL 3.0.

Risulta infine eccellente la dotazione di porte di uscita dal momento che essa include una Dual-Link DVI, una HDMI e una DisplayPort.
