VIA Technologies ha annunciato la disponibilità commerciale in tutto il mondo della motherboard VIA VE-900 Mini-ITX, una soluzione che, in accordo alla denominazione commerciale, implementa un form factor mini-ITX ed è indirizzata agli utenti "fai da te" (in gergo "DIY" Do It Yourself, ndr) che puntano all'assemblaggio di sistemi di tipo home theater PC e media center PC HD Ready e dal costo contenuto.

La nuova scheda madre di VIA integra il chipset VIA VX900, che il produttore definisce cone "unified all-in-one media system processor" (MSP), ovvero una sorta di processore che si occupa della gestione di tutte le funzionalità multimediali, ed include anche una cpu dual-core di classe VIA Nano X2.

La VIA VE-900 Mini-ITX può gestire fino a 8GB di RAM DDR3; inoltre il VIA VX900 include il motore ChromotionHD 2.0, che è in grado di accelerare in hardware i formati VC1, H.264, MPEG-2 e WMV9, senza sovraccaricare la cpu, e di riprodurre i video con risoluzioni variabili fino a 1080p.

Inoltre, il codec audio VIA VT1708S HD rende possibile il playback audio in Sourround a 24-bit.

The VIA VE-900 Mini-ITX Mainboard, measuring 17cm, x 17cm, pairs a 1.4 GHz VIA Nano X2 CPU with the VIA VX900 MSP. In addition to enabling support for up to 8GB of DDR3 system memory, the VIA VX900 MSP features the latest ChromotionHD 2.0 video engine, boasting comprehensive hardware acceleration for the latest VC1, H.264, MPEG-2 and WMV9 HD formats at screen resolutions of up to 1080p without incurring a heavy CPU load. Display connectivity support includes onboard HDMI and VGA.
