Corsair ha annunciato la commercializzazione in tutto il mondo di due nuovi SSD, appartenenti rispettivamente alle linee Force Series 3 e Force Series GT, i quali sono caratterizzati da una capacità di memorizzazione pari a 90GB, oltrechè dalla interfaccia SATA III, o SATA 6Gb/s, che peraltro è comune anche agli altri elementi delle rispettive gamme di appartenenza.

Entrambe nuove le unità a stato solido (cfr. le foto seguenti) sono costruite in accordo alle specifiche del form factor da 2.5-inch e sono basate sul controller SandForce SF-2200. La tecnologia utilizzata per l'implementazione della memoria flash è di tipo NAND a MLC, anche se il modello appartenente alla serie Force GT, dedicato agli "enthusiast", include memorie flash aderenti allo standard ONFI (Open NAND Flash Interface).

Sono naturalmente al top delle categoria le prestazioni: il drive Force Series 3 da 90GB legge e scrive fino a un massimo di 550MB/s e 500MB/s rispettivamente in modalità sequenziale, mentre la variante Force GT vanta una velocità massima di lettura e scrittura pari a 555MB/s e 505MB/s rispettivamente nella stessa modalità.

Per entrambi gli SSD il valore del parametro MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures, intervallo temporale che separa due guasti consecutivi in valore medio, ndr) è pari a 2 milioni di ore, mentre il prezzo della unità Force Series 3 da 90GB è pari a $159 e quello della soluzione Force Series GT da 90GB a $199.

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced worldwide retail availability of Force Series 3 and Force Series GT SSDs in 90GB configurations.

Corsair Force Series 3 high-performance SSD upgrades have native support for SATA 6Gb/s, with a maximum sequential read speed of 550MB/s and a maximum sequential write speed of 500 MB/s. The Force Series 3 uses asynchronous flash memory to provide the industry’s best 90GB SSD performance value. Force Series GT, designed for enthusiasts who demand the fastest performance available, uses ONFI synchronous flash memory and boasts read speeds of up to 555 MB/s and write speeds of up to 505 MB/s. The use of synchronous flash memory makes the Force Series GT SSD particularly adept at reading and writing non-compressible data, such as video and music files.

All Force Series 3 and Force Series GT SSD models are also backward compatible with SATA 2, and include an easy-to-use 3.5" adapter for use in both notebook and desktop PCs. The 90GB SSD configurations are available from authorized distributors and retailers worldwide at a US suggested retail price of $159 USD for the Force Series 3 90GB and $199 USD for the Force Series GT 90GB.
