Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato, AMD ha annunciato ufficialmente i nuovi processori AM3 a sei core della linea AMD Phenom II X6 per desktop e il chipset AMD 890FX.
La linea AMD Phenom II X6 include due varianti six-core, prodotte con un processo di fabbricazione a 45nm e siglate Phenom II X6 1055T e Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition, l'attuale flag-ship della gamma. Phenom II X6 1055T è caratterizzato da una frequenza di clock per core pari a 2.8GHz, 3MB di cache L2, 6MB di cache L3, HyperTransport a 4000MHz e un TDP di 125W; costa $199.
Il Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition vanta invece una frequenza di clock per core pari a 3.2GHz e il moltiplicatore sbloccato; per il resto le specifiche sono allineate a quelle dell'attuale entry-point di gamma.
Entrambi i chip supportano Turbo CORE, una tecnologia proprietaria di AMD che abilita l'overclock automatico di tre core qualora i restanti non siano in uso, e sono installabili sulle attuali motherboard per socket AM3 e AM2+, per cui risultano essere selezionabili anche in fase di upgrade.
Il chipset AMD 890FX non inclue IGP e supporta ATI CrossFireX, fino a 4 vie; in abbinamento al southbridge SB850 fornisce SATA 6Gb/s, o SATA III, Gigabit Ethernet, HyperTransport 3.0 e PCI Express Generation 2.0.

AMD Phenom II X6 processors feature new Turbo CORE technology that transfers performance to three dedicated cores operating at higher frequency. AMD Phenom II X6 processors can shift to Turbo mode for demanding games and productivity software which may employ two or three cores, or shift back to six real cores for the demands of core-hungry content creation and immersive 3D applications.
Systems based on the AMD Phenom II X6 processor and the AMD 8-series chipsets are immediately available in North America from BOXX, iBuyPower, CyberPower, Systemax, MainGear, NCS Technology, Velocity Micro, and ZT Systems. AMD Phenom II X6 processors and AMD 8-series chipsets are available on motherboard sold by online retailers NCIX, Newegg, TigerDirect, and ZipZoomFly.
