I-O Data presented a new universal DVD recorder, DVR-ABM16G, that is able to write DVD-RAM discs at 12x. The drive is expected in retail in mid-February for about $95 followed by black-colored variants (DVR-ABM16GBK) in the end of the month. In mid-February an external USB2.0 variant (DVR-UM16G) will be available for $135 followed by the USB2.0/IEEE1394 model (DVR-UEM16G) for $145 late in March. The drive utilizes Panasonic SW-9587 optical head. Besides 12x DVD-RAM recording, the drive records DVD±R DL at 8x, DVD±R at 16x, DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RW at 6x, CD-R at 48x and CD-RW at 32x.
