VIA Technologies ha annunciato il computer in miniatura denominato APC (Android PC), una soluzione basata sulla tecnologia VIA ed equipaggiata con l'OS Android 2.3 di Google, in versione ottimizzata per la nuova piattaforma.
L'APC di VIA è basato su una motherboard ultra-compatta di tipo Neo-ITX (questo formato, le cui dimensioni sono pari 17cm x 8.5cm, la rende installabile in qualsiasi case per Mini-ITX e microATX, ndr) e include il SoC VIA WonderMedia ARM 11 SoC, 512MB di RAM DDR3 e 2GB di storage in tecnologia NAND Flash. Il kit di connettori di I/O è composto invece da una porta VGA, una HDMI, quattro USB 2.0, una Ethernet 10/100 e uno slot per microSD.
L'APC, che può lavorare in abbinamento a un HD TV, esibisce un consumo di potenza pari a 4W in condizioni di IDLE e a 13.5W in condizioni di carico massimo; inoltre, dal punto di vista del software, APC è pre-configurato con un browser e diverse app.
Questo sistema sarà commercializzato nella prima parte di luglio; il suo costo è pari a $49.

Powered by a WonderMedia ARM processor, APC integrates memory, storage, and a full set of consumer I/O features in a small footprint Neo-ITX motherboard that can be connected to a TV or monitor. The system also features a custom build of Android that has been optimized for keyboard and mouse input, and comes with a browser and a selection of preinstalled apps.

APC is based on the new Neo-ITX form factor measuring just 17 cm x 8.5 cm and can be housed in any standard Mini-ITX or microATX chassis, providing enthusiasts with unrivaled flexibility to create new mods and DIY projects as well as ensuring rapid time to market for system integrators and OEMs utilizing the platform.
APC consumes only 4 watts when operating at idle power and 13.5 watts at maximum load. This is ten times less than a standard PC system and ensures significant power savings in large scale deployments.
