23.10.2005 - Asus Announces New 802.11g Wireless Router |
Taipei, Taiwan; October 21, 2005 – ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS) today announced the availability of the WL-55gE wireless router, which incorporated BroadRange Technology and 125* High-Speed Mode to triple signal coverage range and boost data transfer speed, respectively, of the 802.11g wireless standard. 300% larger signal coverage equals less cost With larger signal range, building wireless networks now require fewer routers, wires and cables, meaning lower cost and a cleaner wireless network environment. Fast enough for complex multimedia contentThe WL-550gE, with 125* High-Speed Mode, boosts data transfer speed of the 802.11g standard by 35% while remaining compatible with any 802.11g solutions. For users who handle complex multimedia applications and demand fast data throughput for large file sharing, the WL-550gE is exactly what they need to attain wireless freedom without sacrificing productivity. ASUS EZSetup Wizard Adopting a unique button design, the wireless router streamlined the WLAN setup process for beginners. Just press the button located at the back of the router and start the simple ASUS EZSetup Wizard. The routers automatically register various wireless-capable devices onto the network and activate security settings. No manual configuration is needed. Wi-Fi Multmedia (WMM) WMM enhances wireless transfers of multimedia contents, providing wireless network users an improved experience for sharing audio and video files. The Wi-Fi Alliance defined WMM as a profile of the upcoming IEEE 802.11e Quality of Service extension for 802.11 networks. QoS and multimedia support are critical to wireless home networks, which require video on demand, audio on demand, voice over IP and high-speed Internet access. WMM defines four access categories – voice, video, best effort, and background – that are used to prioritize traffic to provide enhanced multimedia support. Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2 ) WPA2 is the next-generation Wi-Fi security standard, combining the most powerful authentication and encryption techniques, such as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to provide government grade security to protect wireless networks from unauthorized use. WPA2 is designed to be backward compatible with the original WPA standard, and therefore, WPA2 also supports TKIP, AES, WPA, WPA-PSK and 802.1x authenticated WPA networks. WEP, ACL and SPI firewall are also included to make sure information doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Maximum performance with WL-100gE wireless adaptor News Source: ASUS Press Release Links |
