NVIDIA ha annunciato di aver finalizzato l’acquisizione di Icera, uno dei principali innovatori nel campo dei modem wireless per cellulari e tablet 3G e 4G. L’operazione, del valore di 367 milioni di dollari, ha reso Icera una consociata interamente controllata da NVIDIA ma l’azienda conserverà comunque la sua ragione sociale.

Con l’acquisizione di Icera NVIDIA offre entrambi i principali processori usati negli smartphone: il processore per le applicazioni, ovvero il superchip NVIDIA Tegra, e il processore baseband, basato su tecnologia Icera. Questa offerta combinata consentirà agli OEM di migliorare il proprio time-to-market pur garantendo tutte le funzionalità di mobile computing di nuova generazione e offrirà a NVIDIA il doppio delle opportunità di guadagno per ogni dispositivo mobile.

NVIDIA announced today that it has completed its $367 million cash acquisition of Icera, a leading innovator of top-performing wireless modems for 3G and 4G cellular phones and tablets. Icera is now a wholly owned subsidiary of NVIDIA operating under the Icera trade name.

With the addition of Icera, NVIDIA now offers the two main processors used in smartphones -- the applications processor, in the form of the NVIDI ATegra super chip, and the baseband processor, based on Icera technology. The combined offerings will help OEM customers improve their time to market and deliver the requirements of next-generation mobile computing, while approximately doubling NVIDIA's revenue opportunity within each mobile device.
