Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato, Intel ha aggiornato gli utenti in merito alla problematica dei nuovi chipset della serie 6 in relazione alle porte SATA (cfr. questo documento per approfondire, ndr), che aveva indotto il chip maker a interrompere le forniture dei prodotti di cui sopra.

A seguito della interazione con i propri partner, e in particolare con i produttori di sistemi, Intel ha deciso di riprendere la fornitura dei chipset della serie 6 (P67 e H67 in buona sostanza) al fine di permettere la realizzazione e la vendita di configurazioni hardware "non interessate dal difetto dei chipset".

Inoltre, Intel ha reso noto di aver avviato la produzione di una nuova revisione dei chipset della serie 6 e che la spedizone dei nuovi componenti avrà inizio a metà febbraio.

In accordo a un rumor del Web, Intel avrebbe autorizzato l'utilizzo di un controller SATA per bus PCI-Express, in sostituzione delle porte SATA gestite dal controller; questo trick renderebbe le configurazioni hardware idonee alla commercializzazione secondo Intel, a patto di inibire all'utente l'accesso alle porte SATA integrate sulla motherboard.

On January 31, 2011, Intel disclosed a design issue with a support chip, the Intel 6 Series Chipset that has the potential to impact certain PC system configurations. Intel subsequently initiated extensive discussions with computer makers about this topic. Both Intel and its customers are focused on delivering the highest quality PC systems based on Intel 2nd Generation Core Processors. As a result of these discussions and specific requests from computer makers, Intel is resuming shipments of the Intel 6 Series Chipset for use only in PC system configurations that are not impacted by the design issue.

Only computer makers who have committed to shipping the Intel 6 Series Chipset in PC system configurations that are not impacted by the design issue will be receiving these shipments.

This resumption of shipments of the Intel 6 Series Chipset is not changing the company’s updated first quarter 2011 and full-year financial Outlook published on January 31st.

In parallel, Intel has started manufacturing on a new version of this support chip. Intel now expects to begin shipping the new parts in mid February.
