SAPPHIRE Technology ha di recente annunciato un nuovo modello a prestazione elevata nella sua ultima serie di schede grafiche: HD 6870 TOXIC Edition con sistema di raffreddamento Vapor-X*.

La SAPPHIRE HD 6870 TOXIC ha la stessa architettura interna del modello standard, con 1120 stream processors e 56 texture units ma le velocità di clock sono state aumentate a 970 MHz per il core e 1150 Mhz (4.6 Gb/sec effettivi) per la memoria che incrementano considerevolmente le prestazioni. L'esclusivo sistema di raffreddamento SAPPHIRE sarà in dotazione anche su un modello con velocità di clock standard di 900 MHz per il core e di 1050 MHz per la memoria (4.2Gb/sec effettivi): la scheda grafica SAPPHIRE HD 6870 Vapor-X Edition.

Il sistema Vapor-X di SAPPHIRE assicura un funzionamento efficiente e silenzioso della scheda e insieme ad altre caratteristiche speciali di hardware, tra cui l’alimentazione a 10 fasi e le esclusive induttanze brevettate Black Diamond di seconda generazione, assicurano un miglior “fine tuning” (con overclocking) agli utenti enthusiast. Il tool di overclock di SAPPHIRE TriXX per questi modelli è disponibile per il download gratuito al sito SAPPHIRE Select Club, per tutti gli appassionati che si iscriveranno online.

Eyefinity e Eyespeed
SAPPHIRE HD 6870 TOXIC Edition è dotata di una versatile configurazione di uscite con due connettori DVI, un connettore HDMI e due connettori mini DisplayPort. Utilizzando due delle uscite DVI/HDMI nonché le due DisplayPort questa scheda è in grado di supportare fino a quattro monitor in modalità Eyefinity (SLS). Con l’introduzione dei driver DisplayPort v1.2 sarà anche possibile collegare in cascata ulteriori monitor DisplayPort v1.2 da ciascuna uscita DisplayPort. Nella HD 6870 TOXIC Edition l'UVD (Unified Video Decoder) di terza generazione supporta l’MVC (Multi-view Video Coding) per una facile decodifica di 3D Blu-ray con carico CPU ridotto nonché altri formati di file. Sono anche supportati Dolby TrueHD e DTS-HD Master Audio e la connettività HDMI è stata inoltre aggiornata a HDMI 1.4a. Ciò ora garantisce colori intensi, alta risoluzione avanzata per applicazioni di Digital Theatre, supporto 3D stereoscopico oltrea a high bit-rate audio 7.1. I molteplici stream processore della serie HD 6800 possono essere utilizzati per accelerare altre applicazioni come il video transcoding. L’ultima generazione di web browser può essere accelerata da GPU e ciò è anche supportato per una maggior produttività in Microsoft Office 2010.

Supporto DX11 di seconda generazione
La serie SAPPHIRE HD 6800 è caratterizzata dalla seconda generazione della tecnologia grafica AMD progettata per supportare tutte le caratteristiche di Microsoft DirectX 11 e DirectCompute 11. Le nuove GPU sono integrate nel processo produttivo a 40nm di AMD per garantire elevate prestazioni con bassi consumi. Fra le caratteristiche hardware avanzate rientrano una unità di tessellazione ottimizzata, compressione texture HDR dedicata, comunicazione multi-threaded con core CPU di sistema, supporto integrato per molte istruzioni di DirectCompute 11, supporto per 3D stereoscopico, HDMI 1.4a e DisplayPort 1.2. La serie SAPPHIRE HD 6800 è dotata del driver grafico con certificazione WHQL per DirectX 11 di AMD che supporta tutte le caratteristiche chiave di DirectX 11 necessarie per nuove esperienze di gioco e per accelerare le applicazioni supportate dalla GPU.

Vapor-X
SAPPHIRE Technology è stata la prima azienda ad implementare il sistema di raffreddamento per schede grafiche di PC basato sulla Tecnologia Vapor Chamber, attualmente installata su numerose serie di prodotti di grande successo. La tecnologia di raffreddamento Vapor-X di SAPPHIRE è stata introdotta per la prima volta nel 2007 con la scheda grafica HD 3870 ATOMIC Edition e poi diffusa sul mercato globale con le serie di grande successo HD 3870 e HD 4870 TOXIC Editions e con le serie Vapor-X. The SAPPHIRE HD 6870 TOXIC Edition has the same internal architecture as the standard model, with 1120 stream processors and 56 texture processing units, but clock speeds are increased to 970MHz for the core and 1150Mhz (4.6 Gb/sec effective) for the memory giving users a considerable boost in performance. The same SAPPHIRE exclusive cooler will also be offered on a model with the standard clocks of 900MHz core / 1050MHz memoy (4.2Gb/sec effective) – the SAPPHIRE HD 6870 Vapor-X Edition.

The SAPPHIRE exclusive Vapor-X cooler ensures that the card runs quietly and efficiently. Together with other special hardware features including on-board 10-phase power control and SAPPHIRE’s highly efficient, cool running patented second generation Black Diamond chokes this ensures there is a good margin for performance tuning (overclocking) by enthusiast users. SAPPHIRE’s overclocking tool for these models - TriXX - is available for users to download from the SAPPHIRE Select Club – free for SAPPHIRE enthusiasts to join online.

Eyefinity and Eyespeed
The SAPPHIRE HD 6870 TOXIC Edition has the versatile output configuration of two DVI, one HDMI and two mini DisplayPort connectors. Using two of the DVI/HDMI outputs as well as the two DisplayPorts enables this card to support up to four monitors in Eyefinity (SLS) mode. With the release of the DisplayPort v1.2 drivers, it will be also be possible to daisy chain additional DisplayPort v1.2 monitors from each DisplayPort output.

In the HD 6870 TOXIC Edition the third generation UVD (Unified Video Decoder) supports MVC (Multi-view Video Coding) for the smooth decoding of Blu-Ray 3D with reduced CPU load as well as other file formats. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are supported, and HDMI capability has also been upgraded to HDMI 1.4a. This now provides deep colour, enhanced high resolution output for Digital Theatre applications and 3D stereoscopic support as well as 7.1 high bit-rate audio.

The multiple stream processors of the HD 6800 series can be used to accelerate other applications such as video transcoding. The latest generation of web browsers can be GPU accelerated, and this is also supported for enhanced productivity in Microsoft Office 2010.

Second Generation DX11 support
The SAPPHIRE HD 6800 series features the second generation of graphics technology from AMD designed to support all the features of Microsoft DirectX 11 and DirectCompute 11. The new GPU’s are built in AMD’s 40nm process to deliver high performance with low power consumption. Advanced hardware features include an enhanced Tessellation unit, dedicated HDR Texture compression, multi-threaded communication with system CPU cores, embedded support for many of the DirectCompute 11 instructions, 3D stereoscopic support, HDMI 1.4a and DisplayPort 1.2.

The SAPPHIRE HD 6800 series is supported by AMD's DirectX 11 WHQL certified graphics driver which delivers support for all of the key DirectX 11 features required for enhanced gaming experiences as well as GPU acceleration of supported applications.
