NVIDIA ha annunciato oggi la nuova serie GeForce 500M di unità di elaborazione grafica per notebook (GPU), progettata per potenziare i laptop dotati di CPU Intel Core di nuova generazione (Sandy Bridge).  

Le GPU GeForce 500M saranno il cuore grafico dei migliori notebook del 2011. Grazie alla tecnologia NVIDIA Optimus queste GPU offrono prestazioni leader della propria categoria nelle applicazioni HD, 3D, Web e di gioco, oltre a un'autonomia estesa della batteria.  La tecnologia NVIDIA Optimus incrementa la durata della batteria grazie all'attivazione e disattivazione della GPU, facendo in modo che venga sfruttata solo quando occorre davvero.

Le nuove GPU presentate oggi includono:

• Per gli utenti che vogliono il massimo delle prestazioni: GeForce GT 540M, GeForce GT 550M e GeForce GT 555M con oltre il quadruplo delle prestazioni delle soluzioni grafiche integrate e il doppio delle prestazioni DirectX 11 della concorrenza.
• Per gli utenti mainstream: GeForce GT 520M e GeForce GT 525M offrono oltre il doppio delle prestazioni delle soluzioni grafiche integrate.

Solo le GPU NVIDIA supportano la tecnologia NVIDIA Optimus, che aumenta la durata della batteria attivando e disattivando automaticamente la GPU in modo che sia in esecuzione solo quando occorre davvero. Presentata meno di un anno fa, la tecnologia NVIDIA Optimus ora è integrata in oltre l'80% dei notebook serie 500M dei principali OEM.

NVIDIA today announced the GeForce 500M series of notebook graphics processing units (GPUs), designed to power laptops featuring next-generation Intel Core CPUs (Sandy Bridge).

GeForce 500M GPUs are expected to power some of the industry's best notebooks in 2011. The GPUs feature category-leading performance in media-rich HD, 3D, Web, and Gaming applications, as well as enhanced battery life, courtesy of NVIDIA Optimus technology. NVIDIA Optimus technology enables extra long battery life by switching on and off the GPU so that it runs only when needed.

The new GPUs being introduced today include:

• For performance users: GeForce GT 540M, GeForce GT 550M, and GeForce GT 555M with over four times the performance of integrated graphics and twice the DirectX 11 performance of the competition.
• For mainstream users: GeForce GT 520M and GeForce GT 525M offering over twice the performance of integrated graphics.
