Con il seguente comunicato stampa, AMD ha annunciato otto nuovi processori per desktop della linea Athlon II, due dei quali sono dei quad-core (X4), quattro dei tri-core (X3) e i restanti dei dual-core. Segue l'elenco completo dei nuovi chip, le cui voci includono la denominazione commerciale del prodotto, il TDP, la frequenza di clock per core e il prezzo unitario espresso in dollari U.S. e riferito ad uno stock da 1000 pezzi.

In accordo al produttore, si tratta di soluzioni altamente efficienti dal punto di vista energetico e ottimizzate per Windows 7. Inoltre, focalizzando l'attenzione sull'AMD Athlon II X2 240e si scopre, afferma AMD, che esso offre prestazioni superiori fino al 70% in ambito multimediale al Core 2 Duo E7400 di Intel, pur costando $40 in meno.
E inoltre, l'Athlon II X3 435 ha un MSRP inferiore di circa $100 rispetto all'Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 ma le sue performance sono superiori del 75% con le applicazioni multimediali.
