21.12.2013 - Ubisoft: Tom Clancy's The Division optimized for PCs. And the lighting, shaders and destruction systems of its Snowdrop engine are the most realistic to date |
Massive Entertainment, developer of the upcoming online multiplayer third-person tactical shooter action role-playing game named Tom Clancy's The Division, officially announced that the next entry in Tom Clancy Series for PC won't be a simple port from the editions for the next generation consoles Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One, but a full-fledged and optimized version. In fact, according to the new Q&A page posted by Ubisoft on the official game site, the developer want to create the best game possible regardless of what platform you play on. And so Massive Entertainment is working strongly to fully use the advanced capabilities of the latest video hardware of PCs with its new graphics engine Snowdrop. And Snowdrop is the fundamental key to enable the new level of realism promised by Tom Clancy's The Division for both next gen consoles and PCs. This engine brings out a lighting system inspired by film production technique: it allows that any change in the game environment will have an impact on the lighting, as you can see from some of the screenshots showed in this page. Furthermore, Snowdrop can enhance the gameplay and player's experience thanks to its shaders system: with this one, in fact, the environmental surfaces will change as the weather changes during gameplay (please look the screenshot with the same scene with and without snow). So the player's experience changes following the time of day and the weather conditions as well. The third feature of Snowdrop engine emphasized by Massive is the destruction system. The developer claims it is the "most realistic destruction system to date", and it's capable to reacts differently depending on the physical forces at play. For example, when glass shatters, Snowdrop will mimic reality like you've never seen before. The editions of Tom Clancy's The Division for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCs platforms would be released worldwide in 2014; some sources means the Q4 of the next year as the right time to open your eyes towards the realism of Snowdrop. The editions of Tom Clancy's The Division for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as for the PCs platforms should be released worldwide in 2014; some sources point at the Q4 of the next year as the right time to open your eyes towards the realism of Snowdrop.
