MDK2 Demo
1a. System Requirements

Required:
Pentium (or compatible) 200 MHz
16 MB RAM
Windows 95 with DirectX 5.0 or later
250 MB of Hard Drive Space
CD-ROM
3D Accelerated Video Card with at least 4 MB of video RAM
DirectX Certified Sound Card
Keyboard, Mouse

Recommended:
Pentium II (or compatible) 300 MHz
32 MB RAM
250 MB (or more) of Hard Drive Space
CD-ROM
3D Accelerated Video Card with at least 8 MB of video RAM

Notes on Video Cards:
While you can still run MDK2 with a 4MB video card, performance may be poor depending on the texture quality setting in game. If performance is a problem try a lower quality setting. We recommend that you obtain the latest OpenGL drivers for your video card by running GLSetup which is provided on the MDK2 cd.

WINDOWS NT 4.0:
Although Windows NT 4.0 is not supported in an official capacity, MDK2 can be run under Windows NT 4.0. MDK2 requires DirectX 5.0.

WINDOWS 2000:
Although Windows 2000 is not supported in an official capacity, MDK2 can be run under Windows 2000 provided that you have the latest OpenGL drivers from your video card manufacturer.

1b. Installation
Insert the CD-ROM labeled MDK2 into your CD-ROM drive and follow the onscreen instructions. If your Autorun is disabled, find the autorun.exe application in the root of the CD and double click to launch the Installer.

After installing MDK2, you will have options for installing DirectX 7.0a.

If you do not have DirectX installed, choose to install DirectX 7.0a at the end of the installation process. If you have a newer version of DirectX, it is recommended that you use that.

Later versions of DirectX often have driver updates which will make MDK2 run better on your system. However, MDK2 only requires DirectX 5.0.

You should regularly defragment your hard drive, as fragmentation can result in poor performance.

2. Running MDK2
Start MDK2 from the Start Menu or by running mdk2.exe from the installation folder. This will run the MDK2 Launcher.

2a. MDK2 Launcher
The Launcher will allow you to change all hardware options before playing mdk2. You will be able to test the settings by cliking the "Test Settings" button.

MDK2 Hardware Options

Driver
Once you have proper OpenGL drivers install you will be able to select a driver for MDK2 to use. Pick "Default OpenGL Driver" unless you have a Voodoo1/2 or any other card that is not capable of a full OpenGL ICD. Check you video card specifications for more detail.

Once you have selected a driver you can view detailed information about it by clicking the "Get Info" button. This will display information about your video card and driver in the text box below. If the information given in the text box does not accurately describe your hardware then you will most likely have problems running MDK2. Try running GLSetup to install the most current drivers for your video card.

Resolution
You can select the resolution of the screen or window that MDK2 will run in. Texture memory, fill rate of your video card, and your monitor will dictate your maxmimum resolution.

Texture Quality
This option controls the size and detail of the textures used in MDK2. Higher quality requires more texture memory. If you experience performance problems in MDK2 where certain areas and certain directions are many times slower than others you are probably out of texture memory. To fix this try a lower texture quality setting.

Color Depth
Adjusting the Color Depth will change the amount of colors used to display the game. Not all cards support 32-bit rendering. Check your video card's specifications to determine if it is capable of 32-bit and try testing it first with the "Test Settings" button.

Filtering
Changing the Filtering will affect how the textures are rendered to the screen. Trilinear filter will give a better "smoother" effect but is not supported by all cards. Turning the filtering OFF is Not recommended while playing the game, it is there for trouble shooting purposes only.

Mipmap
Enabling Mipmaping will allow for smoother rendering for far away objects. Disabling it, however, will use less texture memory. If you are using a video card with less than 8mb of ram and are experiencing performance problems it may be worth disabling.

Full Screen
Disabling Full Screen will let MDK2 play in a window on your desktop. However, Full Screen on most cards will have better performance.

Hardware T&L
Hardware T&L utilizes OpenGL's transform and lighting model to leverage hardware support. If you enable T&L AND your video card accelerates transform and lighting then MDK2's performance may be improved. If your video card does not accelerate transform and lighting MDK2 will still run. Try using the "Testing Settings" and check the frame rate to see what are the best settings for your system.
