Intel BI440ZX OC problem

I have Intel BI440ZX mb with celeron 433 cpu. With this mb it's almost impossible to overclock cpu. But I've installed SoftFSB and now it is possible(just software OC). The problem is: I can't make the FSB to run at 75 Mhz, only 66, 83, 100... 66 is normal with this CPU, but 83 is too much (539 Mhz!!!). 75 would be a fine choice, and system would not crash after 10 sec as it is so with 83 Mhz FSB. Is there a solution?

well, it mostly depends on the clock generator chip which is used... SoftFSB directly communicates with this chip, and it allows you to set FSB only if they are supported by the clock generator... perhaps you could find out which exact clock generator you have?

I know which clock generator I have. It's IC-Works W149H. SoftFSB did not work until I selected the right one (I've found it on MB). But the slider in SoftFSB jumps from 66 to 83. I can't select 75! I don't know why.

Try BusRacing, very useful for P2/Celeron/P3 platforms. This tool, developed by MSI but with many mbs support, is located here: http://www.hwsetup.it/periferiche/processori/overclock.htm

Good luck Friday (and remember always to boost cpu cooling BEFORE changing FSB)

Bye bye

if you cant select 75mz fsb, changes are high the .cl.
ock generator doesnt support it...

i just looked your clock generator up, and it doesnt support 75mhz fsb:

perhaps with extra cooling 83mhz will run.... the old celerons/p2deschutes maxed out at 600mhz, so 540mhz should be possible...

Damn clock generator! I've tried BusRacing but it does not support my clock generator. No help! Thanks guys.

Busracing doesn't support my Asus BH6 either, but softFSB works great. now just to get that stupid 300A mhz Celeron to let me modify the multipliers.

EDIT: forgot why it matters: the BH6 uses the 440BX chipset

you cant get that celeron to modify its multiplier, you can get it to run at 450 mhz, almost garantueed....

Friday: have you read my earlier reply?

Yes, I've read it. It's all about clock generator. I can't make it run at 75 Mhz. All other CG's are able to work at 75, but this one is NOT. I have some stupid cooler, so 83 Mhz FSB is just a dream. Stupid machine!

qrazi

if you put a socket 370 cooler for 1ghz+ cpus on it, and place 2 or more casefans @ 7volt, you should be able to make that 83mhz a lot more stable, altough there is luck involved....
540mhz is a lot for a celeron 433, but it is still done...

or you could upgrade, it should have to be that expensive... :) (ECS+athlon anyone?)

I'm trying to find a 533 Mhz celeron (max for my mb), but it's hard. I'll try to find a bigger cooler, and i'll try again. My case is ALWAYS open and temperature in my room is always around 18°c so the airflow shouldn't be a problem. The most stupid thing is: mb's manual says that this mb supports ONLY celeron cpu's. Can you believe that?

find a BIOS update, maybe that will add support for other stuff. It added support for my BH6 for PIIIs all the way up to 1.1ghz, I believe. It previously maxed out at like 450mhz.

No luck for him, the last BIOs ads support for a 533MHz celeron [:P]

Yes, I've just checked. I already have the latest bios.

well, I used CPUCooL on my old celeron 433 (with an intel BI440ZX too :P). I got it to go up to 540MHz fine, with default cooling and stuff. Damn intel mobo, IMPOSSIBLE to hardware overclock with them :(
