Hello 3dfx lovers.
I had a Pentium 3 1 Ghz with a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP and replaced this with an Pentium 4 2,4 Ghz because I wanted to use Anti-Aliasing.

The problem is that the performance is very poor.

For example I could ran Quake 3 on the Pentium 3 at 1280 x 1024 without AA enabled. When I enable AA on the Pentium 4 at the same resolution I don't get any smooth gameplay.
The same with Unreal Tournament. In glide or Opengl does not make any difference. I see people here that play those games (even Unreal Tournament 2003) at a reasonable speed.

Questions:
a) I installed the Amigamerlin 3.1 R1 package with the 3dfx tools from Amigamerlin too. How do I setup MesaFX? I read that it's just a matter of copying the opengl32.dll to the system32 folder and to the game directory (for example SYSTEM directory of Unreal Tournament).
I noticied that there is another opengl file called OpenGlDrv.dll in the system folder. How do I know if Unreal Tournament uses the correct file?
b) Quake 3 doesn't have such a file. I just copied the opengl32.dll file to the Quake 3 folder. How do I know Quake uses the correct dll?

Can anybody give some advice here?

How about chipset driver? Have you installed chipset's drivers for your motherboard? What is the motherboard model that you own?

The drivers are automatically detected with Windows XP. However there is an AGP driver as you can see at the asrock URL below:

Can this be the solution? Or should I look somewhere else.

Exactly! I don't know if this will definitely solve your problem, but it will help!

You MUST always install chipset driver too, because those included in the OS are generic drivers.

I've tested some things out here at 1280 x 1024.

Unreal Tournament runs between 75-100 frames per second without AA.
Unreal Tournament runs between 33-50 frames per second with 2 x AA.
Unreal Tournament runs between 21-35 frames per second with 4 x AA.

I've installed the chipset drivers but it does not seem to have any impact.

Are this normal numbers of turning on AA on a Pentium 4 2,4 ghz with Voodoo 5 5500 AGP? Or is there some tuning possible?
