Hi maadmn,

thanx for the info glide, however i have been trying to delete any other 3dfx drivers. some of them just don't delete. they keep reapearing, i even log on to windowns in safe mode then delete any registry entry that has 3dfx in it then i goto the drivers and still no luck. they are basically in the SYSTEM32 and DRIVER.CAB directories, when i left click on them it only gives me a 'copy' or 'extract' option. perhaps these old drivers are the cause of the problem , im not sure (does xp come with 3dfx drivers).
again thanx for the quick response. hope u or anybody out there can figure this out. ill check u guys out tomorow.

Deleting 3dfxvs key in OS regedit you make disable Windows XP bundled support for 3dfx cards; if other old keys and/or files are present in registry and file system just it is useful for sys restore but those don't compromise newer installations because all files with same names will be overwrite. So please specify what is your problem and we try helping you ;)

thanx for the tip, i would'nt bother deleting but since installing the amiga3.0 drivers require to delete old 3dfx driver files( i have uninstalled the darkmane 1.0drivers) so i thought i should delete anything and everything, my mistake. so i guess ill just go ahead and install the new drivers and not bother with step 1 of the instalation.
one final thing before i do anything, i have my 3dfx card plugged in my proccesssor but im using my integrated card for the time being (since the 3dfx card gives me a blank screen but if i unintall the current drivers that came with xp which is what its using now it should at least start giving me an image).
anyways so do i need to have my monitor plugged in my 3dfx card while installing the drivers or it don't really matter.

okay, you need to disable the onboard video in order for the voodoo to work. This is usually controlled in the system BIOS or by a jumper on the motherboard. The easiest way to find out is to look it up in the manual, if you know what your motherboard model is, I can look it up and tell you how to.
When the sun goes down, the music turns up...

Windows XP Pro|Athlon XP 1800+|Voodoo 5 5500 AGP|MSI K7T266-A|768MB DDR 2700 RAM|SonicEdge 5.1 Sound Card

ummm ok, im not sure what u mean by disabling the onboard video but ill look up my mother board model ,im not at home right now.(buy the way what does that do and how does it interfere with voodoo) i thought if it was important it would be mentioned in the installation procedure. the reason i ask is because im wondering is it some specific problem in my system (like because i have AMD or something) or its a more common issue.
anyways thanx for the input ill get back to u in the evening.

With VGA on board enabled you load Windows XP then...

1)Remove old anofficial 3dfx driver by OS Control Panel --> Installed Software list (just if you don't make it ;))

2)In Device Manager you must remove on board VGA driver

3)Now you reboot and go in system bios (hiting Cancel button during memory test). Here disable integrated VGA and enable PCI card support (see motherboard manual for more info). Save the changes and exit

4)When OS is loaded you must follow AM 3.0 install procedure that I linked for you in my first post.

That's all

hi glide and all others helping me, i think i did what u told me,
i removed the unofficial(darkmane drivers) i left the voodoo 4500 pci drivers that came with xp (the ones that are digitally signed). when u said i must remove the onboard vga drivers did u mean uninstall the integrated cards driver files in device manager. cause i was not sure so i did not do that.
i checked my bios with a friend , he said your setup for plug n play so what ever card u use it will work,
then i deledted the reginstry entry and rebooted , then installed the driver setup file, after that i rebooted then i was back with the same situation, i just got a blank screen when my desktop was suppose to come up.
i dont think that the bios is giving me trouble cause when i"look through " my video card without no drivers associated with it then my desktop comes up ( the image on it is mest up of course) but when i install a driver then you know what happens.
if i did something wrong or not thoroughly then let me know ill do it over again. i never had this trouble with my last Compaq computer with winME ,im confused as to why i get a blank screen.
anyways thanx for being so patient, i know im slow at this stuff.
