Well, ive tried to install Windows 2000 on this machine. But as I've though, it's swaps like hell and even explorer tends to hang for a few milliseconds every time I do something.

And games even worse [:(!]

Arghhhh... [:(]

i don't know what to say..howewer is normal that voodoo 2 on direct-x doesn't run under win2000 - xp - nt.. i suggest you to use windows 2000 with the fastvoodoo 2 3.5 for windows xp..nothing (for now...) direct-x but pretty glide support..good luck!

Powered by voodoo5 and voodoo2 sli
Quite a Mission Impossible ain't it :D

Okay, I can always give it a try! :)
Windows '95 for DOS/Win9x games and Windows 2000 for the rest would be a good alternative aswell I think.

I'll keep you all updated! :)

This is perhaps a luxery problem, but oh well :D

I have the following system:

Gigabyte GA-586-DX (Dual Pentium)
2x Intel Pentium 200MMX
4x16MB EDO RAM (64MB total)
4GB Seagate IDE disk
4x4GB IBM DDRS-3456 SCSI (50-pin)
CD-ROM drive
1.44MB FDD
S3 ViRGE ?MB PCI (86C325)
2x Diamond Monster 3D II (Voodoo2 12MB PCI)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster AWE64 ISA PnP
3Com Etherlink III (3C509)

MS-DOS.
MS-DOS is cool and is installed at the moment, for the very old DOS games before the 3Dfx time ;)
(Yeah, kick those bastards from hell in DooM! [8D])

Windows 95,98,ME
I originally wanted Windows 9x for the Windows game applications, the Voodoo2 (SLI) is very good for games in this OS, but since Windows 9x does not support dualcpu systems (it uses only 1 CPU) it's a bit 'bummer'.

Windows NT4.0
Not so heavy on resources (only got 64MB of EDO RAM), and quite stable. But it does not support DOS applications that well and DirectX does not seem to be working for the Voodoo2's. Also seen this problem under Windows 2000.

Also lot's of Windows games refuses to work under NT4.0 It requires Windows 95/98 or sometimes Windows 2000/XP.

Windows 2000(/XP)
Windows 2000 seems like a good choice for Windows games, but because this system just has 64MB of RAM, it will swap a lot and this is not really good for optimal performance.
And also under Windows 2000, DirectX does not work with these Voodoo2's.

UNIX,Linux,BSD etc
Well, this is not really something I want but still maybe something worth to write down.
I'm not a big fan of these operating systems, because it needs quite some work to get it working smoothly and not really the best OS for games. And emulating under Wine doesn't get the peformance high.

This system had been used as an server, but because I have a better one now which is also running much smoother (Windows 2000AS is quite heavy on just 64MB [:o)]) this system was 'free'.
And because I had those two Diamond Monster 3D II cards in their boxes... I'd like to use them once again!

But it seems there are more problems then I first thought [:(]

I hope you guys can give me some advice of what I can do best.

Normally I dont make a huge entrance when coming to a forum for the first time, but oh well. Maybe it's worth it :D

Anyway, here goes...

Got my first 3Dfx experience by a friends place, with a Diamond Multimedia Monster 3D 4MB PCI (Voodoo Graphics), which got me drooling for quite a long time ;)

Would take a long time before I had my own Voodoo, which became a Velocity 100 (aka Voodoo3 1000), later on when I already had sold my Velocity 100, I bought a 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 64MB AGP. Now that was some kicking around with games like Unreal :D

But because I was short of money and had some plans I had to take, I had to sell it.... before I could have a chance I could buy another one, I had borrowed 2 Diamond Multimedia Monster 3D II cards in SLI mode. Which I have now in a old computer of mine :)

But now I have a nVidia (yeah, kick me hard :P) GeForce4 Ti4200 ViVo in my computer which I swap with the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 64MB AGP card when I want to play some Unreal, Unreal Tournament, or an other Glide API based game.

I ain't got a PCI>AGP converter (where the heck can you buy such things), so I can't use both at the same time.

Anyway, that's for my past with 3Dfx :D

I'm also a member of a big dutch community on internet called "Tweakers.net / Gathering of Tweakers (GoT). I was already quite interested in 3Dfx and helped/discussed on that forum quite a lot about it.
For some time I'm very involved in the big 3dfx topic which is going on there. And a few days ago someone gave a link to this site and was talking about the drivers here.

And when I saw there was a forum, I couldnt resist and had to look on it some more :P

Perhaps you'll not notice me here that much, but still very interested about 3dfx is still alive and kicking in a way of speaking ;)

Hope to see you around soon!
