Hi guys. I'm tired of all the incorrect info floating around on the net, as well as the difficulty in finding a lot of it in one place. I've spent the last (almost) year working on a site that has accurate, confirmed info on hardware - nothing which is "heard once upon a time from someone I once knew who heard of this person who says so and so."
I've got close to 1,500 items of hardware listed, and so far it's been good. There's a lot more to go before the site is made public, but it's getting there. I don't want people seeing the unfinished product and writing the site off for good because of it.
For the most part I've been fine with the 3Dfx info, but when it comes to the unreleased or extremely rare products I have a lot of questions. I would appreciate if someone can help fill in the gaps - please don't reference other sites as I've been on hundreds, if not thousands, over the past few months looking for this info and there is a lot that conflicts. What I really want is someone who owns the products or has access to them, or even an industry contact from back then that can help out.
I've tried to reach out to Jindrich Semenec elsewhere, but as he is no longer active on these forums I have a feeling he has moved on completely and wouldn't be in the least bit surprised (and certainly wouldn't blame him) if I don't get a reply from him.
The info I so desperately desire is:
- Voodoo 4 4200 - was this VSA-100 (Napalm) or VSA-101 (Daytona/Napalm2)? I'm leaning hard towards VSA-101
- Voodoo 4 4800 - was this VSA-100 (Napalm) or VSA-101 (Daytona/Napalm2)? What was the TDP?
- Spectre 1000 - Was the gate count 18 million or 25 million? What was the die size? Was it DirectX 7 (I see many reports of this) or 8 (as it had PS1.1 support)?
- Spectre 2000 - What was the total board TDP with the Sage and Rampage chips combined? Was the gate count 18 million or 25 million for the Rampage? What was the Sage gate count? What was the die size for both chips? Was it DirectX 7 (I see many reports of this) or 8 (as it had PS1.1 support)?
- Spectre 3000 - What was the total board TDP with the Sage and both Rampage chips combined? Was the gate count 18 million or 25 million for the Rampage? What was the Sage gate count? What was the die size for both chips? Was it DirectX 7 (I see many reports of this) or 8 (as it had PS1.1 support)?
And then these - I have zero info at all other than what's posted and need the following: Die size, gate count, TDP, DirectX/OpenGL/PS (if applicable) support, memory type and amount, projected or actual fabrication process, core and memory frequency, and bus width. I can calculate fill rates and bandwidth myself:
- Voodoo2 TnL (has an SST96 GPU and Mitsubishi IMPAC-GE geometry co-processor with fully hardware accelerated transform, clipping and lighting)
- Voodoo3 TnL (has an Avenger GPU and a Mitsubishi IMPAC-GE geometry processor with fully hardware accelerated transform, clipping and lighting)
- Voodoo 4 4000 Rev2 (VSA-101)
- Voodoo4 4400 (should be VSA-100 only)
- Voodoo5 5800 (should be VSA-100 only)
- Voodoo5 5500 Rev2 (VSA-101) - these seem to have existed in the retail market
- Spectre 4000
- Fear 1000 - projected specs
- Fear 2000 - projected specs
- Fear 3000 - projected specs
- Fear 4000 - projected specs
Any help filling in the gaps would be GREATLY appreciated!
