V5 is having atrocious game compatibility with early Glide games. Some games only run on V1/2 hardware. Do what trigger suggested ;-)

I like the idea. How about a "The way it's meant to be played" remake? :D

General Discussions / slow 2D performance

I am using SFFT 1.5 drivers w/ V5 PCI on XP. The recently released 1.9 drivers unfortunately do not work for me.

QuoteThis was probably caused by the following module: 3dfxvs.dll (3dfxvs+0x8685A)
Bugcheck code: 0x100000EA (0xFFFFFFFF8A444988, 0xFFFFFFFF8992A710, 0xFFFFFFFFBACFBCBC, 0x1)
Error: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M
file path: C:\CHILLBOX\system32\3dfxvs.dll
product: 3dfx Interactive VSA Series
company: 3dfx[Zone] www.3dfxzone.it
description: 3dfx VSA Display Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that a thread in a device driver is endlessly spinning.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: 3dfxvs.dll (3dfx VSA Display Driver, 3dfx[Zone] www.3dfxzone.it).
Google query: 3dfxvs.dll 3dfx[Zone] www.3dfxzone.it THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M
But that's not the point. The 1.5 drivers I am using work for fine for the game I play but whenever I am browsing web... the system lags quite a bit. Any idea why 2D is so slow for me?

Thanks.

I personally fancy the 9600 XT here.

+ Decent DirectX 9.0 support
+ On-chip thermal diode
+ Low power consumption
+ You can get one Zalman heatpipe equipped
+ Low price [eBay]

Runner up: Geforce4 Ti series

+ Excellent game titles legacy support
+ Very good DirectX 8.1 performance

Now I must also make it clear that I despise the whole FX line up. Geforce 6+ era cards are not legacy enough yet [:p]

a dual Pentium Pro system isn't that slow to operate. I had a Pentium 133 w/ 64mb running XP SP2 and it wasn't a bare minimum to begin with. The NT family unlike the 9x line up is more memory dependant than the CPU.

I had a dual Pentium 3 box at one time and the V5 worked fine as I can recall it. Stock drivers were used at the time.

Come next century this stuff will be worth something [:p]

I think SFFT sold off his Voodoo fleet on eBay not so long ago. Hopefully somebody else will take over! Did SFFT release the source of his work anyone know?

Hope my presumption is wrong though [:p]

I would make sure my CPU/memory subsystem would handle the extra load. With a system such as yours I see no point in OC, rather than just have a big phat grin. Good luck with the heatsinks though.

I think so. What error you are getting?

2 trays, 50 something each?

I saw it. It would be possible to assemble the cards if other components are present. All you need is a good torch :)

This is indeed very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

* Diamond Multimedia Stealth 64 Video 3200 2MB VRAM PCI
* Diamond Monster 3D II MEGAMonster bundle 24MB PCI
* Gainward Bliss 7800 GS+ 512MB AGP

And a dozen of key rings made of simms [:p]

I've been thinking about that too. If they would revive the Glide API making it multi-platform, make short work of DX and consequently dethrone Microsoft. Now that sounds exciting, doesn't it?

nVIDIA have the muscle to do that. Revolution FTW.
well nvidia only has the 3dfx assets  ont the name of rights
You know, they say "If there's a will, there's a weapon".

It looks authentic. I would add the XP tag as well underneath though. Thanks for sharing.

Ok i was wondering today if it's even possible to install a new motherboard without re-installing the os i have built several systems but i always re-installed windows so i don't know if it's even possible.
No, unless it's Windows 9x. If you'd like to speed up things, get things automated instead ;)
