and you're running NT 3.51 for what software package????

What's wrong with ole' NT 3&1/2 and a bit? Yah, yah, it isn't "modern" and without the MS Shell Preview Update it isn't "pretty", but it's a workhorse. It's extremely difficult to crash it. Honestly, I don't "need" to have NT3.51, but it's more of experimentation to see what games/software will run with a modern enough video card. You'd be suprised how many OpenGL games will in fact execute and run acceptably on NT 3.51. For most of my gaming I use NT 4 and Server 2003, but it's still fun to fool around with an older O/S. I still run DR-DOS 8 in my multiboot ;P

Anywho @ ps47 - thanks for the link! They have NT drivers but they don't list OS requirements, so Ill d/l them and see.

yeah, a Mac Mini will be your friend...for a trouble free PC...

But not for gaming...

& @ mudass -
I was a Pentium enthusiast for many years also. My first real gaming rig was a Pentium MMX 233 with a Matrox PCI card. Never wanted to "touch" that "amd stuff". Always looked at it as inferior. Then the P4 comes along, with its extremely inefficient design and gradually AMD takes the lead. I denied this for quite awhile but benchmarks don't lie. For gaming, Athlon 64 takes the crown. Not even the P4 580 4ghz CPU would have fixed this problem...

Oh well, Intel is moving to the Pentium M architecture, so hopefully they'll have a competitive gaming processor out sometime next year...

& I always hated XP. Probably just me, but I couldn't stand that O/S, with it's "toy" design and numerous bug fixes every week. I moved to Windows Server 2003, tried the eval and purchased Web Edition. I'm much more happy with it. I'd still use NT 3.51/4.0 if the "modern" software/games would support it.

That depends on what games you want to play. The best PC's are home-built, but if you absolutely cannot/do not want to build your own, I like these folks - CyberPowerPC.

If you don't want dual-core/dual-cpu, I'd say go for a Socket 939 Athlon 64 solution, as they are the clear performance leaders right now. Pentium 4 is a dead-end. Get a gig of RAM at least, and the GeForce 6600GT's & 6800's are at a nice price spot right now.

OK Thanks. I went from PCI to AGP 8x lol so I'm not that familiar with the early versions of AGP.

V3 gets kinda hot with stock heatsink, i prefer to add a fan to cool things down.

Any particular HSF you like? I figure Arctic Cooling thermal compound would be sufficient.

I have a V3 AGP card and I'm wondering what power spec it uses IE will it run in my VIA/ASUS K7 AGP4x/8x slot?

Thanks!

I'm slowly building my 3dfx collection and am using a Voodoo3 in one of my boxes but recently I've started to worry that I'll end up killing the cards (let's face it they aren't THAT new) and will have to go get another one in the ever-shrinking market.

Now, some of this is probably paranoia, but is extra cooling optimal on the Voodoo3? Does it prolong life or is the standard factory heatsink sufficient?

Thanks!

I'm running NT 3.51 SP5 and need OpenGL drivers for V3 AGP. I know 3dfx published drivers at least for its early Voodoo cards for NT3.51 so I'm hoping they were published for the V3 and still exist.

Thanks!
