General Discussions / Voodoo 5500 AGP Bug
17 April 2006, 02:30:13
I think this looks like a memory/dead GPU problem.
I have had this same problem with two V2's in
SLI awhile ago, were there is only 50% of the screen
displayed........

General Discussions / Unknown 3Dfx Card.......
15 April 2006, 01:22:04
Hi,
I am wondering exactly what 3Dfx card this is,
the owner claims its a V5 5000 AGP,
but I have never seen a V5 with S-video out support(besides the MAC
vesion...)

http://cgi.ebay.com/3DFX-VooDoo-5-32MB-AGP-Video-Card-No-Reserve_W0QQitemZ8796263754QQcategoryZ40157QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I am thinking this is a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP or something...

Thanx.

I will need a few days to get a screenshot available,
also I noticed this after reading something about
3Dfx configs...

QuoteYour primary display device should be working already (IMPORTANT: Set the AGP Aperture Size to 128MB or lower in your BIOS. Vodooo2 SLI may not work with a higher setting than that).

I have a 256MB Geforce 6800 GS OC, and in the BIOS its set
at 256MB aperture texture size...

I'll be able to test the config once I get home from my
Buisness trip.
Thanx.

Hi,
I am trying to use 2 Mismatched voodoo 2's in SLI mode
using koolsmokies test driver, And have come across a
weird problem. It seems that I have a graphical corruption
in SLI mode at 1024x768x32b, its like one voodoo is working
fine and the other one is sort-of working.

I am not sure if its a hardware problem ( a problem with
one of the voodoo cards) or a driver (problem with the test
driver).I have experienced a simular situation with
some of the early build(s) of the amigamerlin series with my
Voodoo 5 5500 AGP. Were there are visual "lines"
on the screen...

My system is a AMD Athlon 64 FX-55, Asus 939 Board,
2x1024MB 3200 Dual channel RAM,BFG 6800 GS OC Video Card,
STB 3Dfx V2 1000 12MB and SkyWell Black Magic 3D 2 12MB cards...
and Windows XP Pro OEM...

Any help would be appreciated,
If needed a screenshot could be provided.
Thank You!!

-Also on the page https://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/news/3dfx/koolsmoky_v2_driver_test_kit/

The screen states that you have to enter a setting for mismatched 3Dfx Voodoo 2 boards in SLI...

"Set SSTV2_MISMATCHED_SLI = 1 "

I am not sure were to change or edit this setting, or even
what to do with this command switch. It is not even in the registry
under 3Dfx Software.I could add it i guess...

Tried Koolsmoky's driver after a clean install of XP SP2.
It installed without any problems, but would not detect SLI for
any reason. And kept getting a black screen when trying to
play any game that uses the glide API. Comes up with a error
"Failed to initialize driver".....Well i finally came across
a driver that supports both winxp and MM cards in SLI.
Only problem was that I didnt think it would work, becuase
appearently the other people on this forum could get it to work correctly with thier computers hardware configuration.
Tried the driver, and amazingly its works perfectly. In glide mode,
but has some problems with OpenGL(wicked3d/minigl) games.
The driver I tried was Glide's MM driver (0.22 or 0.23).
Maybe that driver was created and tested toward certain hardware
config's? I do not know, but the drivers work good for me.
Thanx everyone for your good help/insight!

Works with a few others that i forgot to mention.
Only game it didnt work with is Quake 3 Arena.
SLI detected inside control panel, SLI works fully.
Disabled SLI and couldnt get 1024*768 with one card.
No graphical errors noticed. Looks quite nice on my

Memory is not the problem[ 512MBx3 PC2700 (333Mhz)Sticks]. Tested with
Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic/Memtest86 and two other programs, passed all. Failed None. Using Windows XP SP2. I know there is
a Vcache bug in Win98, but i cannot fix it becuase it is upon installation of the OS. Windows XP was re-loaded. I will try the voodoomage drivers again after the system is re-updated. I will mirror image the hard drive in a norton ghost file before I attempt that again. This time is there anything I should do differently???
Thanx again all for your insight/help!

Will not work with regular drivers, in the 3Dfx display settings, it will detect SLI. I left it enabled to see what would happen, but all it does is the monitor goes black for 2 seconds and goes back to desktop. Disable the SLI (through the control panel.)And it functions again. Legendgrafix's drivers do not work at all. Either the screen goes black and drops back to desktop, screen goes black and monitor goes off and hangs the system, but no error messages. In SLI mode this happens. When the SLI cable is disconnected these drivers seem to work okay.

-Drivers I used were Legendgrafix's voodoomage 2.0.0, FastVoodoo2 XP 4.0, Hacked XP voodoo(normal)drivers. All seem not to work. Though only one has MM support. I tried yesterday to install Windows 98 SE on this system. It will not install becuase of a not enough memory error on install. I thought that was very funny becuase this system has 1536MB of RAM and 490GB of Hard Drive space. So i gave up on 98SE.
And Windows ME should stay dead. I am not trying that.

Current Build of Legendgrafixs voodoomage 2 build hangs my system.
Dosnt work at all.Black screen after trying to use in Glide/OpenGL mode (Turok for glide/Quake 3 for OpenGL)
System Specs
Asus K8N Mobo/Nforce 3 250
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Oc)
1.5GB of PC2700 RAM
Windows XP Pro (OEM) SP2
Magic 3DII 12MB video card
STB Voodoo 2 12MB
Geforce Fx 5600 Ultra 256MB video card
DirectX 9.0c
Latest Nividia drivers installed.
SLI cable linked.

In optimization config menu, after freezing, I reboot and
everything is reset to disabled. Both cards work individually.
Not sure what the problem is, any suggestions?

I am having some problems with my Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 (256MB) Video Card. All resolutions in D3D mode are fuzzy under 1024x768 for some reason. My system is overclocked recently also. I just adjusted the CPU frequency, but I did not touch the AGP bus speed. Should I adjust it also? Currently it is at 66Mhz and can max out at 75Mhz. Heating problems are nonexistent in this system becuase they are water cooled. (GPU+CPU), also using LegendFX's Voodoo Mage drivers for my SLI Voodoo 2's. Latest Nvidia Drivers were used also, forceware version 71.89. Any suggestions? Thx.

I currently have a Magic 3D II (3dfx Voodoo 2 12MB) and a STB V2 1000 (3dfx Voodoo 2 12MB) video card. Under Windows 2K/XP is there any way I can pair them up in SLI mode, using mismatched drivers or regular drivers?(FastVoodoo 4.6) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx.

"Are you speaking about a support for D3D under these 2 OS's ?"

Not Really. I installed Windows XP Pro x64 Edition on my computer that has a AMD 64 Processor. I installed a version of Windows XP that has extended support for the 64bit processors. After installing I noticed that Windows XP didn't auto-detect my Voodoo 2 card. It was detected as a Multimedia Video Device. Every time I try to install the FastVoodoo Drivers for the Voodoo 2, it kept saying that the drivers I was trying to use are not intended for this platform, and to make sure they are 64bit compliant. I can try to force the 32bit drivers to install, but by default windows xp x64 will then disable the hardware, making it useless. I am not only trying to get D3D Working, I am trying to see if there are drivers for this version of windows that even exist, and if they can ever be built.(One that will support the Voodoo 2 hardware itself, with any API's) I can imagine that in the near future, this might present a problem for people who get new computers with x64 processors and 64bit OS'S, and want to use thier 3Dfx Cards, this will not be possible because these drivers don't exist...yet. Anyways, I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about this, or anything that might help. Thanx.

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to create drivers for the Voodoo 2 graphics board to work inside a 64Bit OS, (Like Windows 2003 and Windows XP 64), or if there was a known workaround to get the 32bit drivers for the voodoo 2 to work inside windows xp x64.
As far as my own experience with Windows Xp 64bit edition, I can disable the 64bit driver only protection, and it will let the drivers somewhat install, but it disables the hardware because it says that "It is not intended for this platform." Was wondering if anyone knows anything that might help, Thanx.
