That's it : it was a voodoo1 card. Excuse me for the mess but I must say i have this card for lonf ago and I have had a voodoo2 (but I remember now i've sold it !!!).
I've found a driver for XP here : http://www.falconfly.de/voodoo1.htm
and the install is clean.

Thank's for your help

Yes, that's what I've done but I ask me a question : is it really a "voodoo2" type card. What if it's a "voodoo1" type ? are there any XP driver for that type of card I can try ?

My card is a diamond monster III D 4MB and is correctly plugged.

In fact the error message come just after the file have been extracted at the beginning of the installation.

The installation is not aborted and I can see a new device installed (non signed driver indeed) for a sound and game controller.

The file are copied in the directories and the values are added in the registry but after reboot, my card remain in other peripheral, mutimedia and video controller, with a yellow sign and the mention that the driver have not been installed for this peripheral.

Hello ! thanks for the answer. In fact, I've done what you told me a couple of time but always with the same error message.
I've even gone in the registry editor to suppress every key related to 3 dfx.
But the problem remains. In fact, it's the same for other packages of driver (for the voodoo2).
I've tried to perform an install with the device manager too, specifying the location where the file are (folder driver2000 where the file voodoo2.inf is, after decompressing the rar package which is named setup) but then the device manager answers it can't find any driver for my material.
So I'm stuck.
If anybody else has an idea about it, for exemple which ini file could be in conflict with the inf file...
