General Discussions / New guy needs a bit of advice.

For 2000-era machines I don't think processor speed is really an issue. I have been using an AMD2100+ for a long time now for the same purpose and never had any problems with those kind of games. For DOS games its another story but I think you will be ok with a 3GHz processor and Voodoo 4.

I think Aalchemy support would be great, but very difficult to realize. We dont know if Amigamerlin is even working on drivers at all any longer.

Amiga, any plans for a new release some day? AmigaMerlin 4.0 [8D]

Wow! [:0]

Are you sure this is played on a voodoo 5? It looks very very impressive, all that detail and still over 100 fps. Anyway really nice work :).

Hi,

If I were you I would look for a banshee.
Since you said you wanted one from each
generation:

Quotejust like to have some touch from each Voodoo generation.

And your still missing one from that
generation :)

That would probably be the GeForce 7900GTX. Its just out so you
will have to pay alot to get one of them. I took a quick look and
the price tag here seems to be € 599,-

Although personally I would go for this card:

Asus Extreme N7800GT DUAL

It reminds me of the good old VooDoo 5 6000 :) This card is actually a SLI setup
on one board. Price tag however is not so nice: € 769,-

After having finished the instalation of driver (I selcted "yes") and 3dfxTools ,I noticed that there was some instability with Windows XP (erreur messages) ,it's normal[?]
Thenks thank you for your answers;)

After you have rebooted you will have to reinstall the driver.
It will ask you again fot information ("remove"/"repair") you
will have to select "repair". While reinstalling the setup will
ask to override files, everytime it does, select "yes". When its
finished reboot your system and the 3dfxtools will work (normal)
again.

Hi,

Since you have DDR memory CPU-Z is correct.
Your memory uses both the rising and the falling
clock edges so you will have to multiply the
value from CPU-Z by 2. If you do that you get
 200 x 2 = 400mhz
So there is nothing wrong with your memory. ;)

Yes, its a real nice v5 6000. It seems this card
has 5.5 ns and not 5.4 as usual for a v5 6000. So
If you intend to reflash it, I assume you will need
a BIOS from a card that has the same kind of memory.

VooDoo 5 6000 for sale on ebay for those who are interested.
Rev. A2 2600, and one of the best looking samples I have seen so far.

Yes, this is the card that could potentially be
upgraded to 64 MB of Memory. However nobody has
ever been succesfull so far. It seems that just
adding more memory to the card (filling the empty
places) and updating the BIOS will not suffice.

A relatively short time ago some people discovered
there is a hardware limitation so the card will not
recognise the extra Memory. This has also been confirmed
by an ex-3dfx engineer.

If you would like to know more I would reccomand you
to visit FalconFly's forum and search for the subject.

AGP 4X :)

He, cool idea.

Here my contribution. Unreal Tournament with 1600x1200 and 8XAA,
pretty much the maximum a VooDoo 5 6000 can deliver. No FRAPS,
however the ingame FPS counter is running. Pretty old screenshot
by now.

And not forget the classical Quake 3 "screenshot" I made in 2048x1536.
All thanks to Dborca for this one. For puting back "insane resolution"
to MESAFX. Its not really a screenshot but still a nice picture. :)

Whoops, sorry about that [:I] Well if I'm not mistaking
the game is based on the Unreal 2 engine. In order to play
games based on this engine I had to force 32 bpp in the
3dfxtools. But since the VooDoo 3 has no support for 32 bit
I dont know if its possible to play this game on your machine.
