An update: I decided to remove WickedGL and simply use the 3dfxvgl.dll from c:\windows\system32 renamed to opengl32.dll for running Quake. This now works without any texture issues and without any errors about memory. :)

However the Windows XP desktop is still always in grayscale when I quit the game, and it needs a reboot to regain colour. I have tried setting the desktop to 16 bit instead of 32 bit but it doesn't help (actually it makes the grayscale desktop look even worse). Do you think this might be an issue with my onboard AGP card being unable to reinitialise itself properly after the Voodoo2s give control of the screen back to it? Although like I said before the Glide demo apps included with the drivers don't have this effect - when I run those the Windows XP desktop keeps its colour.

Hello, I am having some difficulty getting my Voodoo2 SLI system working in XP.

I have installed the FastVoodoo2 XP 4 GE drivers and have been trying to get the GL QuakeWorld client to run with WickedGL. When I launch the game and I get the 3dfx splash screen and the WickedGL screen where I have to press c to continue. Then when I try to connect to a server from the console there is the following error message:

grTexDownloadMipMap: mipmap cannot span 2 Mbyte boundary

The screen flashes a few times and I have to press c again at another WickedGL screen. Then I get a similar but slightly different error:

grTexDownloadMipMapLevelPartial: mipmap level cannot span 2 Mbyte boundary

This second error then occurs 3 or 4 more times (I keep pressing enter to accept the error and c as another WickedGL screen appears). Eventually the Quake level loads. However the textures are all messed up. About 10% of the textures load correctly, but the others are mostly random black and white patterns. When I quit Quake, the Windows XP desktop is then in grayscale and the only way to fix this is to reboot.

Also, the system button in the V2-1000 properties page of display properties doesn't think I have any Voodoo2 cards installed for some reason (though they are in device manager).

What is very strange though, is that when I tried out the Glide demo apps that were included in the FastVoodoo2 XP 4 GE driver download, they worked perfectly! So perhaps the only thing that is wrong is my installation of WickedGL? I'm not sure. Can someone help me?

The specs for this system are:

P2 350 MHz
128 MB SDRAM
Intel BX440 chipset motherboard
onboard STB Velocity 128 AGP graphics card (nVidia Riva 128ZX chipset)
onboard Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI 128
network card + modem + not much else

P.S. The computer also currently dual boots with Windows ME and the Voodoo2 SLI works just fine with all games in ME so I know there is nothing wrong with the cards themselves.

I have tried in the past to get the Voodoo2s to work in XP with other drivers and I have always had the problem with the windows desktop reverting to grayscale. However I don't remember having texture problems before or the memory errors.
