Title: help with VOODOO 5 5500 and xp
Post by: omegavolpe on 05 January 2004, 23:51:44
hey guys, i have a bit of a problem with my voodoo 5 5500. everytime i run anything that uses Direct 3d or glide the gamma settings of my card drop seriously low whenever i return to the desktop. for example just say i run a 3d screensaver (any screensaver by 3Planesoft.com will cause it), the graphics are so dark i don't see much on the screen. then when i exit the screensaver, the desktop is still really dark. i have to go to the 3dfx tools gamma correction to fix it. in fact i have to set the gamma to 2.20 to increase the brightness of the screen. i only have this problem with windows xp. the card runs great in any other version of windows.

this is my schematics for my machine

P4 2.4 Ghz
Soyo P4-s Dragon Ultra MB
512 MB DDR Ram
Amigamerlin Display driver Version 3.0
3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 AGP with bios updated to v1.18
Windows XP Pro Edition
DirectX 9.0b

I've reinstalled the driver at least a dozen times and reinstalled directX twice since then. if anyone could help me out it would really be appreciated.

thank you,

Omegavolpe

p.s. on a side note it doesn't seem that my motherboard supports agp 3.3v that the voodoo5 uses (even though on the spec sheet it says it does support 1.5v and 3.3v but i can only access 1.5v through bios), could this explain the adverse relationship between xp and the video card?

Your motherboard supports Voodoo5 card. Problem looks as bad software configuration. Then you could begin to again install all external device drivers, starting from chip-set driver until audio driver and  passing through video driver.

Please update Windows XP with latest Service Pack before running this task.

Let me know.
