hmm, very interesting, and I generally agree. However, I've gotta say that my V5 5500 by far outperforms my GeForce 2 GTS, and this article states exactly the opposite. One thing that's always kinda bugged me, though:

Almost like they were trying to save a sinking ship by getting out whatever they could with as little effort as possible. Their statements concerning SLI in these cards, the choice of SDRAM, and most of all their very brief explanation for the lack of AGP 4x support really show this.

Unfortunately, 3dfx went belly up before the Voodoo5 was tested and reviewed on a 1Ghz + machine.
The fact that this card just keeps on going faster and faster with a higher rated cpu, is (to me anyway) quite amazing! I upgraded from a 1.4 (@1533Mhz)t-bird, to a xp2000+ (@1.8Ghz) and jumped up by approx 10-15 frames on games... No driver updated, just cpu...
Seems 3dfx shot themselves in the foot, however, it always hits a bit of a soft spot whenever I read these older reviews about 3dfx's demise...
Eh...what could've been......
