Title: setting up voodoo2 rig - no D3D support issue
Post by: revenant on 03 February 2012, 17:50:44
Hi all.. I am setting up a voodoo2 rig (I have two diamond 12G cards) and am running only 1 card atm.  I have tried the fastvoodoo2 4.0 GE drivers and koolsmoky's drivers.. I have to use the fix memmap error patch also because I always get that unless I use the patch after changing drivers..  the weird thing is, under the 3dfx v2-1000 tab in my video control panel I have only a drop down selection for "Glide" and nothing for "Direct3D".  Is this normal??

the rest of the system is:

MSI K7N2 Delta-L with xp2600+
Riva TNT2 64
SB Audigy

I am running windows xp sp3 and the 61.77 nvidia drivers for the TNT2 and directx is patched to it's fullest I can get on xp32.  I have tried cleaning and reinstalling the Glide drivers a few times and always the option for Direct3D does not show up in the 3dfx control panel.   Glide apps work fine but when I run something like Star Wars DFII it doesn't use the voodoo card for sure...

Any ideas??

PS:  the text on the info tab is also messed up.  kind of like described here:

"Neither driver showed all of that information as legibly as your screenshot does. It almost looked like the text was off center."

I can only see some info but it's like the text was too big for the info box... I am wondering if the Nvidia drivers are interfering or something.. I might try and old ATI card is the primary.. also maybe using the stock voodoo2 driver for xp.

edit: AHHH... ok, looks like XP is the issue here... nothing based on the NT kernel will allow glide to run D3D according to this:

"V2 SLI runs best under win9x/ME, XP drivers don't have D3D support, there is only support for glide/opengl."

http://helppage.3dfx.sk/#SLI

I found that from this thread.

Yes, so it is. You can play opengl games on winXP, too. You will have to use wickedGL, MiniGL or MesaFX for this.
experimental D3D support under winXP wth this driver:

have fun!

Thanks!  yeah, I am using miniGL for openGL right now... when I tried to install the wickedGL 3.02 package it gave me an error.. something like "no space to unzip" or something.. I have 90G free so not sure what's up with that...  it actually did unzip too when I clicked "ok" but the setup.exe wouldn't run.  the miniGL seems to be working fine but I see most people here prefer the wickedGL.. I might try and DL it again but things are working ok for now.  I got my second v2 and SLI'd them up.  It's so cool how well this old hardware still runs. :)
