Title: Danger in running Voodoo5 6000 at high refresh?
Post by: Crash on 08 June 2004, 16:59:38
Greetings,

I have this problem with my Voodoo5 6000, which is that certain refresh rates are met with wavy on screen interference.  My way around this has been to try to run games at higher refresh rates.

I found Koolsmokey's v.Control program, which I have used solely to set the refresh rates for 640x480 and 800x600, so games don't run at a headache inducing 60hz in Windows 98se.

Since then, I have had some games crash pretty hard, and I'm wondering if the higher refresh rates could be responsible, or if I am somehow overdriving my Voodoo5 6000.  The last thing that I want to risk is damage to this card.

In these resolutions, I am running at 120hz since my monitor seems to be very stable at that rate.

I don't think that I'm overclocking the card in any way, at least not intentionally.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am pretty sure that most of the danger is with the monitor blowing up.  If, when you have the correct monitor INF file installed, the screen actually comes up and you can see it, you should have no problems whatsoever.
