La scheda SAPPHIRE HD 3870 ULTIMATE Edition, che presenta 512MB di memoria GDDR4, opera a 1.125MHz (2,25GHz effettivi) e una velocità clock core di 775MHz, offre gli stessi emozionanti livelli di prestazioni grafiche del modello standard, rispetto al quale però garantisce il vantaggio di un sistema di raffreddamento heatpipe completamente silenzioso e senza ventola.

La SAPPHIRE HD 3870 integra la più recente tecnologia ATI Avivo HD per una migliore visualizzazione e presenta un UVD (Decoder video unificato) incorporato per la decodifica hardware accelerata di contenuti Blu-ray e HD DVD per entrambi i codec VC-1 e H.264, riducendo al minimo il carico della CPU. L’adattatore HDMI offre un’affidabile uscita audio e video ad alta definizione su un singolo cavo per il collegamento diretto di un display compatibile con l'interfaccia HDMI, rendendo la scheda SAPPHIRE HD 3870 ULTIMATE la soluzione ideale per gli appassionati di videogame e prestazioni video.

Analogamente ad altri modelli della serie, SAPPHIRE HD 3870 ULTIMATE Edition presenta la nuova tecnologia CrossFireX, con due connettori ad alta velocità su ogni scheda, che consentono di collegare in cascata 2, 3 o persino 4 schede grafiche, per prestazioni ottimizzate quando installate su una scheda madre CrossFireX compatibile. Poiché ogni scheda presenta due connettori dual-link DVI, è possibile utilizzare fino ad otto monitor contemporaneamente, oppure, con CrossFire abilitata, l’enorme potenza di un massimo di quattro GPU combinate, per offrire una soluzione di rendering più potente.

Tutte le schede della nuova serie SAPPHIRE HD 3800 combinano un’architettura shader unificata con il supporto per lo Shader modello 4.1 e l’imminente DirectX 10.1 collegati attraverso la più recente interfaccia PCI-Express Gen 2.0. L’architettura condivide i 320 processori stream e un controller di memoria interno basato su ring bus a 512 bit di tutti gli attuali modelli di alta fascia, oltre a multiple unità di rendering e un’unità di tessellazione programmabile per offrire prestazioni grafiche eccellenti. Ora fabbricata con il nuovo processo produttivo a 55nm, la GPU della serie HD 3800 offre questo livello di prestazioni a basso consumo energetico, e a un costo ridotto rispetto alle generazioni precedenti. La nuova funzione ATI PowerPlay riduce attivamente la potenza assorbita in funzione del carico.

The SAPPHIRE HD 3870 ULTIMATE Edition has 512MB of GDDR4 memory, running at 1125MHz (2.25GHz effective) and has a core clock speed of 775MHz, delivering the same exciting levels of graphics performance as the standard model – but featuring a totally fanless and silent four heatpipe cooler.

The SAPPHIRE HD 3870 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced Video display and features a built in UVD (Unified Video decoder) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for both VC-1 and H.264 codecs, reducing CPU loading to a minimum. The HDMI adaptor delivers true High Definition audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection of an HDMI ready display, making the SAPPHIRE HD 3870 ULTIMATE the perfect silent solution for gamers and video enthusiasts alike.

Like other models in the series, the SAPPHIRE HD 3870 ULTIMATE Edition features the new CrossFireX technology, with two high speed connectors on each card allowing for 2, 3 or even 4 graphics cards to be daisy-chained together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compliant mainboard. As each card has two dual-link DVI connectors, this allows up to eight monitors to be used at the same time, or - with CrossFire enabled – the raw power of up to four GPU’s combined to provide a significantly more powerful rendering solution.

All the new SAPPHIRE HD 3800 series combine a unified shader architecture with support for Shader Model 4.1 and the DirectX 10.1 connected via the latest PCI-Express Gen 2.0 interface. The architecture shares the 320 stream processors and 512-bit internal ring bus memory controller of all the current high end models together with multiple rendering units and a programmable tessellation unit to deliver outstanding graphics performance. Now manufactured in a new 55nm process technology, the GPU in the HD 3800 series delivers this performance with lower power consumption and at lower cost than previous generations. A new feature known as ATI PowerPlay actively reduces power consumption depending on loading.
