I know of someone who is attempting to flash a Voodoo 5 PCI with a Mac BIOS. does anyone know if this can be done? I just realized that it will be set up for a TV-out, will that interfere at all? I'm looking mainly for someone who has successfully done it or had it fail. I realize the opposite flash is done somewhat often, but I don't know about this one. the other thing is, is there a mac flash program? I couldn't find one, but that means very little.

Someone has also tried it by voodooalert.de  You can flash your PCI card in a pC. You flash it like with the normal ritual procesess, but with the  Voodoo5 5500 Mac bios of course, which i also have, if you cant find , i can e mail it. Normally you have to flash it twice  because at first time , the pc will stop and doesn't continue with flashing, just restart tthe pc and flash it again. And you have a VOodoo5 5500 PCI MAC !Enjoy it

Why do you want to remove the DVI support ? I have also flashed it m and it works by me.
But flashing a cards is always dangerous..

because the card doesn't have a DVI port, it's a standard V5 PCI card. so the DVI support won't interefere with anything?

No, the firsr person also have tried it with a "normal" Voodoo5 PCI, so without DVI.

There is a strapping option to enable regular V5 to work in MAC, It's a resistor change. I'll try to find it.

Hi,

Yes you have to flash MAC bios on it, to make it work in the MAC. The only reason why the regullar PC card will not flash to MAC, was the cost. MAC V5s were more expensive so 3DFX did not want MAC users buying regullar cards and flashing them. The flash utility reads the ID off the card and refuses to flash MAC. You can go from MAC to PC no problem.

Hello everyone- my first post here heh, how do you convert a Mac Voodoo 5 PCI 5500 (I believe thats the card- 64mb dual GPU with DVI?) to the PC version? I donloaded a BIOS update, but when I went to flash the BIOS on the card, I ran the .exe's and I dont think anything happened... a cmd prompt window flshed onscreen for less than a second, it flickered really, and unless the whole process doesnt take very long, I dont think it flashed the BIOS.

I intend to use the voodoo 5 pci as a second video card, as there is already an AGP Ati Rage 128 installed. Mac OS X does not support 3Dfx cards, and I hate to see my voodoo go to waste. I installed the card in my Dell Dimension 4300 (running windows xp home with service pack 1 installed I belive) this morning, got the PC BIOS, ran the executables to flash the BIOS, and went to install drivers.

The Microsoft supplied driver did not install- my coputer hung with the installation progress bar full for a few seconds, crashed at a blue screen and rebooted. I downloaded several other 3rd party drivers, amigamerlin's drivers, and darkmane's drivers, which also crashed while installing. I simply can't get this card to work with windows. Does anyone know of drivers that work? Do I have to remove the AGP card and run my monitor off the vodoo card while i install drivers? Help? Thanks in advance.

this requires flashing the BIOS of the video card - probably you should create a new thread for this, or search around, as I know I've seen other people do this. I was trying to do the opposite conversion, which is much more difficult (btw, this really doesn't matter anymore, as I've lost contact with the guy I was trying to help, he's probably given up by now).
