Sorry if this is a stupid question. I've been away from 3dfx for almost two years now. I just stuck a Voodoo5 in my Coppermine rig and got it running Doom3 in WinXP! Hell, the last I remember someone was trying to hack some WinXP drivers to work, period. It's incredible the work you 3dfx diehards have done to keep this card alive.
Anyways, I have the Amigamerlin 3.1s going fine with Doom3. I wanted to try Far Cry except when I start the game, I get the splash screen but it goes away and nothing happens. What's the scoop? No go with Far Cry with the XP drivers? I am running DirectX 9.0C.
[V] <-- You know what that means.... If you look in the FarCry log file it says 3dfx voodoo card detected, game doesnt support this card...shutting down. Nobody has been able to get FarCry running on any 3dfx card.
I think the best bet is to start Farcry in OpenGL mode using MesaFX.
You have to change an .ini file to run the game in OpenGL. I tried it once, but it didnt work. Maybe the newer versions of MesaFX can make it run...
this would require a hack for farcry,to avoid card detection..I have tried to run it myself, but no luck, the game always detects voodoo hardware and exits to desktop as result..
theoreticly it should be possible just like UT 2004 that's also D3D.
..I was able to enable opengl mode, but the game still detects voodoo and exits.stupid, because I'm pretty sure mesafx (or mesafx_d3) would do the trick (probably slowly, but anyway)..
Thats what i said, i also tried to bypass the detection. I always wanted to try to remove the detection line with assembly :DNever found the time for it though...(before i forget 3da doesnt work either, letting the game think it is dealing with 9800 pro or ti4600)
Oh well, I was just curious to see how it would run on the Voodoo5. :) No big deal. Maybe in time, somebody will figure something out.
I noticed that with Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb the detection is done by a separate executable file that is run as a sub-process which screws up 3da, could it be doing something similar.
SFFT
idk if this would help, some dude on my other fourm was being an ass and posted a soft mod from a 9700Pro to a 9800Pro
it of course didn't actually do anything but change the way the driver, not the game, saw the card
so Windows, Bel-arc, and anything else (including Catalyst) saw the thing as a 9800Pro
and it upped the clocks
didn't do much else, it wasn't extremly hard to do, just took some time, about 30 minutes
would something simmilar be do-able, just make farcry thing you've got a GeForce2 GTS or something running in there, and then once it boots switch to OpenGL and play it?
